WHY DO YOU SAY THE MEMPHIS 150, PRESENTED BY AUTO ZONE, WAS THE BIGGEST WIN OF YOUR RACING CAREER?

Garcia: “It was a rough year at the beginning of 2018. I was getting a little frustrated. I led 180 laps in a race in Mexico right before Memphis and got a flat tire. When I won at Memphis, it took a lot of weight off my shoulders. After we won there, we started to run strong and won a second time. I can’t overstate how big that was to my career to win at Memphis.”

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THE CITY?

Garcia: “Memphis is a great city. We’ve gone to the Dr. Martin Luther King (National Civil Rights Museum) and Elvis Presley’s home the last couple of years. Our team has a good time there.”

WHAT MAKES THE MEMPHIS 150 A SPECIAL RACE FOR FANS AND DRIVERS?

Garcia: “Memphis has an old surface which is hard on tires and you have to plan your strategy more than other tracks. It’s hard racing and on lap 1, you don’t think much about strategy. This series is so hard, so competitive. That makes good racing for the fans.”

YOUR FAMILY IN MEXICO IS SIMILAR TO THE PETTYS AND EARNHARDTS IN AMERICA. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN RACING?

Garcia: “I’ve been around racing my whole life. I remember summer break after school I would go to the shop every day, learning about the cars. I’m happy to keep the family tradition going.”

WHEN DID YOU GET SERIOUS ABOUT BECOMING A RACE CAR DRIVER?

Garcia: “I did go-kart racing when I was young and then I got to drive a stock car. When I got my first win in a stock car, I will never forget it. It made me want to work as hard as I could to keep going. My dream was one day to be winning in NASCAR.”
