MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Kody Swanson overcame mechanical woes in multiple race cars this weekend to claim the USAC Silver Crown Series Memphis 100 victory Saturday, March 23.
Swanson, the driver of the No.20 Gene Nolen Racing/KECO Coatings-Goodridge-K&N Filters/Beast/Tranter Chevy and 2018 series champion, started from pole position at the 075-mile tri-oval for the Memphis 100. He fell back to fourth position early on before reclaiming the lead from Bobby Santos III on a lap 71 restart. He went on to win in his first race at Memphis International Raceway and his first start for Gene Nolen Racing.
“I want to say I prepare for every scenario as best as possible. We stayed up all night getting the car prepared at the shop this week,” Memphis 100 race winner Kody Swanson said. “I wasn’t sure if it was going to be good for 100-laps but it’s my job to make the car last during the race. I can’t thank the guys at Nolen Racing enough for all their hard work, and especially my wife (Jordan) who supports me and is my race day spotter.”
Bobby Santos III came home second, Justin Grant finished third, Kyle Hamilton finished fourth and Joey Schmidt rounded out the top-5.
