Friday, January 11, 2019

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (January 11, 2019) — Memphis International Raceway will host five days of the most fearless drag racing on the planet March 1-5, during the Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Blowout.

This historic event, which has been run for more than four decades, features two days of no-prep racing, three days of radial-prepped racing and will attract Grudge racers and fans from all over the South. More than $40,000 in payouts are available for just the first two days and culminates with another $27,500 of payouts during the Main Event on Fat Tuesday, March 5.

“We look forward to having an event of this magnitude at Memphis International Raceway,” said Tim Packman, President of MIR. “The historical aspect of Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Blowout is phenomenal, and the following is even larger. We were glad to work it out where MIR is now the place for this incredible race.

“Scott Taylor, Charles Waldrup and Ricky Stanbro have done an excellent job of keeping this event alive and growing it each year. We are looking to continue that aspect and look forward to everyone coming out for five days of racing. Not just any racing, but Jet Cars, Grudge Racing and Test n Tune for five days. Mardi Gras and racing makes a perfect combo for a great event.”

It’s the latest addition to a packed MIR schedule which features some of the most prestigious races and largest series in auto racing. Memphis International Raceway, home of the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit SuperSeries World Finals, is the premier motorsports destination in the Mid-South. In addition to numerous drag racing events, MIR hosts series such as NASCAR, USAC and the CARS Late Model Tour at its 3/4-mile oval track.
