IHRA Summit Team Finals Race Recap

MILLINGTON, TN (October 8, 2018) – Sunday was the IHRA Summit Team Finals at Memphis International Raceway (MIR). Racers from Memphis International Raceway, Beacon Dragway, Buffalo Valley Dragway, Mountain Park Dragway, London Dragway, Brainerd Motorsports, Prescott Raceway, Knoxville Dragway, Ozark Raceway Park, Holly Springs Motorsports, and Gulfport Dragway all competed to become the IHRA Division 2 Champions. Racers also participated for their shot to secure a spot at the IHRA Summit World Finals on October 18-20 at Memphis International Raceway.


Beacon Dragway in Paducah, KY, took first place in overall team points and was named 2018’s Team Champion. The Team Championship was determined by a points system with one point being awarded to the winner of each round. Memphis International Raceway was a close second with 37 points and Buffalo Valley Dragway finished in third place with 33 points.

The finals in Box on Sunday night pitted Jesse Bobo, from Walnut, MS, representing Memphis International Raceway against James Barnes from Portland, TN, representing Buffalo Valley. Bobo took the win and the Ironman trophy securing his bid to the IHRA Summit World Finals. He ran a 4.72 on his 4.70 DI with a .004 reaction. Barnes finished runner-up, running a 5.943 on his 5.93 DI with a reaction time of .028.

The finals in No Box had Jared Bargo, from Crittenden, KY, representing Mountain Park racing against Jack Spivey, from Williamsburg, OH, also representing Mountain Park. Spivey had Bargo on the tree, but he ran a full second behind his Dial In, finishing with a 7.361 on a 6.34 DI and a .082 reaction. Bargo took the win, and the Ironman trophy, securing his place at World Finals, running a 7.439 on his 7.10 DI and a 0.139 reaction time.

The Junior Dragster class finals was a battle between two competitors representing Team Brainerd Motorsports. Khloe Wilson, from Flintstone, GA , faced Drew Brown, from Chickamauga, GA. Wilson took the win at the tree with a .006 reaction time, running a 7.963 on her 7.91 DI. Brown finished runner up with an 8.924 on his 8.91 DI and a .063 reaction.
