Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams - August 18th Race Recap

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (August 20, 2018) – Saturday night was an action-packed evening of bracket racing for points at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) in the Summit Racing Equipment Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams. Rick’s Powder Coating Box, Luttrell Belting and Supply No Box, PTC 6.0, Rick’s Powder Coating 7.0, Engines Inc DOT Street, and Inman Murphy Pest Control Jr. Dragsters all raced.


The finals in the Rick’s Powder Coating Box class was a very close race with Robbie Graves, from Jackson, TN, racing against Russell Snyder, from Cordova, TN. Snyder took the win at the tree with an almost perfect reaction time, .001, finishing with a 4.947, on a 4.94 DI at 139.98 mph. Graves ran a 4.923 on a 4.92 DI at 139.14 mph with a .008 reaction. Snyder’s win puts him in 13th place overall in points, which is the cut off for team finals, and Graves is in 15th. Chad Cherry is the current points leader with 351 points. Leigh Hubbard is in second place with 311 points but he currently leads the Summit Super Series Championship for this class.

Luttrell Belting and Supply No Box class had Todd Berry, from Tuscumbia, AL, racing his 1985 Camaro against Greg Rushing, from Jackson, TN. Berry took the win, running just .006 off his DI. His winning pass was a 6.306 on 6.30 DI at 106.09 mph. His reaction time was .033. Rushing’s runner-up pass was a 7.020 on his 7.02 DI at 97.29 mph with a .049 reaction. The Luttrell Belting and Supply No Box class has just one point separating first and second place in season points. Kyle Rumley is in first place with 332 points and David Elam is in second with 331 points.

The Engines Inc. DOT/Street Class had local racer and current points leader, Whitney Jackson, from Millington, TN, racing a 1998 Trans Am against Leisa Foster, from Munford TN, in her 1985 Chevy 1500. These two racers are best friends and it was Foster’s first time racing this season and she made it to the finals on Saturday night. Both racers caught red lights on the tree, but the win went to Jackson with Foster’s red light coming first, who ran a 13.388 on a 13.38 DI at 104.17 with a -0.27 reaction time. Foster’s runner-up pass was a 16.202 on a 16.13 DI at 82.92 mph with a -.006 reaction. This win maintains Jackson place at the top of the class with a total of 232 points.

Rick’s Powder Coating 7.0 Index class finals was a battle between first and second place in total season points. Phillip Tong, the current points leader, from Germantown, TN, raced against Cliff Hubbard, number two in overall points, from Millington, TN. Tong was racing his 1981 Camaro and Cliff was running his Chevy S10. Hubbard caught a red light on the tree, handing the win to Tong. Tong’s winning pass was a 7.025 at 109.41 mph. Hubbard ran a 7.037 at 106.51. Tong’s win keeps him in first place with 154 total points on the season. Hubbard stays in second place on the season with 111 points.

PTC 6.0 Index class had Jesse Bobo, from Walnut, MS, racing against current class leader Daryl Cooper, from Cape Giardeau, MS. Bobo took the win, running a 6.006 at 121.14 mph after Cooper Broke out with a 5.998 ET. Bobo’s win moves him into fifth place in the class. Cooper’s runner-up finish maintains his first place standing in the PTC 6.0 Index class with 122 points.

The finals in the Inman Murphy Pest Control Jr. Dragsters class had the current points leader, Devin Johnson, out of Collierville, TN, racing against Hunter Ray, from Covington, TN, who is third in points in the class. Both racers got red lights on the tree and ended up breaking out. The win went to Johnson who ran an 8.116 on his 8.12 DI with a -0.27 reaction time at 78.35 mph. Ray ran a 8.105 on his 8.12 reaction at 79.97 mph with a -.046 reaction. Johnson hasn’t missed a points race all season at MIR and his win on Saturday gives him 345 points accumulated in 2018. Ray moves into second place with 273 points on the season, followed closely by Chris Palugi Jr, who sits in third place with 270 points. The four points leaders at the end of the season in this class will move on to Team Finals.
