MILLINGTON, Tenn. (July 2, 2018) – The Triple Nickel $5,000 bracket race was at Memphis International Raceway over the weekend and we saw three great days of racing. The Luttrell Belting & Supply No Box class and the Rick’s Powder Coating Box class raced Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. The 2nd Hand Power Stock/Super Stock class and the Junior Dragster class, sponsored by Newberry Auto Sales, joined the racing on Saturday.

The first round of finals on Friday night in the Rick’s Powder Coating Box class had Danny Thomas, from Henderson, TN, racing against Renard Smith, from Arlington, TN. Renard caught a red light on the tree and handed the win to Thomas, who ran a 5.392 on a 5.38 DI at 128.14 mph.

In Saturday night’s finals race in the Rick’s Powder Coating Box class, Johnny Ezell, from Ventress LA, raced against Friday night’s winner, Danny Thomas, in his 04 Vette. Thomas ran foul, handing the win to Ezell, who cruised to an easy victory, running a 15.762 on a 4.68 DI at 26.98 mph.

The Rick’s Powder Coating Box class on Sunday had Rusty Ashmore, from Como, MS, racing against Tyler Roach from Jonesboro, AR. Ashmore, the 2014 MIR Track Champion, hasn’t yet won this year. This weekend, he borrowed Jason Ferrell’s car to compete, and he took it all the way into the winner’s circle. Ashmore ran a 6.372 at 105.64 mph on a 6.37 DI, with a .005 reaction.
