Memphis International Raceway Selected as Tour Stop for Hot Rod Power Tour, June 2013


(Millington, TN -) Memphis International Raceway is proud to host the Hot Rod Power Tour, sponsored by the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce. The attention of 40 million automotive enthusiasts will focus on the Hot Rod Power Tour during the 7 days in June when the rubber meets the road.   The Hot Rod Power Tour is the ultimate hot-rodder vacation. Thousands of car enthusiasts, drawn together by their love of the automobile, will cruise across American with the staff of Hot Rod Magazine and icons of the automotive industry.



“We are excited to welcome the HotRod Power Tour back to Memphis International Raceway. The last time the event stopped here it was a huge economic engine for the area and showcased Memphis’ southern hospitality to over 2,000 participants. The substantial growth of the tour since that time will make next year’s stop an even greater benefit for the area. Thanks to the support from our partners with the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce, we were able to secure one of the seven stops on the tour,” said Jason Rittenberry of Moroso Investments Partners


Being chosen as a tour stop on the Hot Rod Power Tour represents broad economic impact to the area and brings extensive positive local and national exposure to MIR, Millington and the Greater Memphis Region. “Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to support Memphis International Raceway in bringing the HotRod Power Tour to the Greater Memphis Region in June, 2013,” said John Oros, Executive Vice President, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau. Oros continues, “Memphis is fortunate to have first class venues like MIR that attract national and international events like this one that have a powerful economic impact on our entire region. The Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomes the HotRod Power Tour to the birthplace of rock and soul and promises HotRod enthusiasts a rocking, Memphis – style good time.”

Hot Rod Power Tour began in 1994 with only 7 cars and has grown to include 2,200 long haulers who make the entire 7 day journey, 4,700 participants and 75,000 spectators. Each night of the Hot Rod Power Tour is hosted in a different city. MIR is partnering with the Tennessee Department of Tourism to ensure the hotrod tourists experience true southern hospitality with a little Memphis Flare.

Recurring Events

  • Test N Tune Thursdays – Test N Tune is open to any competitor who wants to test their skills on the historic drag strip. Race events organized in this way are sometimes called "run-what-ya-brung". Admission: Racer $20, Spectator $10, children 12 and under FREE. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. run from 7-11.
  • Saturday Summit Bracket Racing presented by COMP Cams – Popular with weekend racers, places a premium on consistency of performance of the driver and car rather than on raw speed. Testing their skills at the line and down the track for the perfect package every time. Some of these racers will drive their vehicles to the track, race them, and then simply drive them home while other will trailer in their race ready car and compete for the track title in the IHRA points and go on to compete at the team and word finals to be held in October. Technical/safety inspection.
  • 2 Wheel and Slick Tire Wednesdays -  Open only to bikes and slick tire cars. Admission: Racer $20, Spectator $10, children 12 and under FREE.

  • Dixie House Café 50K - July 6-8, 2012 – Racer’s from all across the country will come to put their car in the pot to win $50K on a single day of racing! Biggest bracket race of the years at MIR.
  • IHRA Pro AM, August 17-19, 2012

International Hot Rod Association Pro AM – racers from surrounding states will come to compete at the sportsman race – entry is based on class

  • Monster Truck Mania, Jet Cars & King of the Track, August 31 – September 1, 2012

Labor Day Bracket Bash on Friday with IHRA Ironman and racer Pit Party. Saturday will feature Monster Truck Mania, Jet Cars, King of the Track with a car-crushing Monster Truck Freestyle Finale. Spectator admission is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for Children 12 & under.
