Five Questions with Chris Wright for Memphis 125 on June 3

Saturday, May 27, 2017

NASCAR K&N Pro Series Director Chris Wright took time recently to answer five questions about the Memphis 125 for Saturday, June 3, and what it means for NASCAR’s first race in the Mid-South in eight years.

Wright, who became the NASCAR K&N Pro Series director in 2013, has over 20 years of stock car racing experience. He served as a crew chief for such organizations as Robert Yates Racing and Team Rensi, and worked in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Truck Series as well as the K&N Pro Series.

1. What are your initial thoughts about NASCAR’s return to the Mid-South for the first time in eight years with the Memphis 125 for the K&N Pro Series?

”We’re excited to make NASCAR’s return to the Mid-South. We have passionate race fans throughout the region and we can’t wait to come to Memphis next week and put on a great show.”

2. For fans, it’s an opportunity to meet the future stars of NASCAR. Who are some of the former NASCAR K&N Pro Series drivers who are now racing in the Monster Energy Cup Series and how did their time in K&N shape them?

“Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Daniel Suarez are some of the few Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers who got their start in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. I think their time in the series helped them learn different racing techniques and allowed them to become familiar with the cars. But most importantly, I believe it allowed them to connect with race fans throughout the country and build a fan base at an early age.”

3. How important is it for the community to show up for the Memphis 125 and show their support for NASCAR?

“It’s very important. When we have a packed house, it makes the races more exciting. Plus, as I mentioned before, this series allows you to meet and connect with the future stars of the sport. The future Kyle Larsons and Daniel Suarezs.”

4. What makes Memphis and the Mid-South so important to NASCAR?

“Every fan is important to NASCAR. We’re excited to be able to return to the Mid-South and Memphis and to be able to put on a thrilling show for our fans that we haven’t seen in a while.”

5. As far as the race track, it’s a ¾-mile, paved, tri-oval track with 11-degree banked turns. What kind of racing do you think we can expect?

“You can expect an action-packed race. I expect it to be filled with exciting passes, lead changes, aggressive racing and overall excitement from our drivers. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday than at Memphis when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is in town.”
