Long-time Memphis International Raceway Employee, Paul Cartwright Announces his Retirement

Thursday, November 17, 2016

Paul Cartwright has been a staple at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) since the facility reopened. He came on board during the 2012 season and has served as Event Manager and Director of Operations during that time. Prior to rejoining Memphis in 2012, he spent time at No Problem Raceway, Heartland Park as well as a decade under the Memphis Motorsports Park umbrella from 1996-2006.

Paul Cartwright shared, “I would like to take this opportunity to inform my friends and racing family that I am retiring from Memphis International Raceway at the end of the year. I am not closing the door completely on drag racing as I would still like to do some part time work within the industry or possibly with some of the racing organizations. I would like to thank Pam Kendrick and the staff at MIR for the past five years. I say this with a heavy heart as I’ve been at the track day in and day out for many years.”

Spending over 50 years in the industry, Cartwright is well known and well respected by many. He has worked with several sanctioning bodies as well as race promoters along the way. Many visited him in the tower and in the staging lanes as he kept the races moving throughout the years. Paul has many friends in the racing industry and his contribution to the motorsports industry will never be forgotten.

“I’ve worked with Paul on two occasions, once under Memphis Motorsports Park and then again under our current team Memphis International Raceway, he hasn’t changed from day one and has stayed true to himself over this time,” said Pam Kendrick, President and General Manager of Memphis International Raceway. “We didn’t always agree, but found common ground to achieve many great things together. Paul will be missed, but I venture to say, he’ll be here from time to time as he enters this new stage in his life. He will always be welcome and I personally hope the time with his family and friends allows him to enjoy a few days away from the racetrack, he deserves it.”
