Bump spots change and Jackson takes 3rd win of season

As the 10th race of the season is now officially in the books, there were no lead changes, but there was a change on the bump spot for who's in and who's out for the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit Team Finals representing Team Memphis. That's not the only thing on these racer's minds as the final race of the season draws closer, the Summit SuperSeries Champion is also on the line. The Summit SuperSeries Champion advances to the IHRA Summit World Finals on October 19-22, 2016. Three racers from Memphis International Raceway will be represented at this event.

The night was absolutely gorgeous, you could not have asked for better weather. With clear skies, great temps and championships to be decided it was time to go racing.

The first class out of the box in the finals would to be the R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster. We saw Drew "Mann" Tracey facing off against current points leader Tara Taylor in the final. Taylor of Somerville, TN. would take the win over Tracey with a .006 reaction time running a 8.01 with a seven on a 7.99 dial in. Tracey, a little late on the tree, had a .116 reaction time running an 8.52 with an eight on an 8.46 dial in. The win extends Taylor's points lead to 22 over Tracey. The final race will determine the Track Champion and if Taylor can hold on, she will represent Memphis at the IHRA World Finals - Summit SuperSeries Run Off on October 19-22, 2016 as well as at the team finals.

The RT Turbines Junior second chance race had Devan Lowe of Covington, TN paired against Wade Rose of Ripley, TN. It would be Rose too quick at the tree with a red light start, handing the win over to Lowe with a .146 reaction time running an 8.609 on an 8.18 dial in. Lowe is holding the fourth and final transfer spot to the IHRA Team Finals at the end of the month. Rose has an 11 point lead over Lowe in third. These are two young racers making every pass count as they head into the final stretch.

Tommy Jackson Race 10

Up next was the R. T. Turbines DOT/ Street Class with current points leader finding his way to the finals once again. The finals would be Tommy Jackson pairing off against Billy Foster, Sr. Foster is the current track Champion of Brighton, TN. The race would be won at the tree on a double breakout run with Jackson taking the win with a .012 reaction time running a 13.69 with a five on a 13.73 dial in. Foster had a .048 reaction time running a 14.01 with a five on a 14.08 dial in. Jackson with his third win on the season in the class and fifth appearance in the finals extended his points lead to 47 with Chris Foster, moving into the number two spot just 19 points ahead of former track champion, Cliff Hubbard.

Cliff Hubbard Race 10

The next final on the schedule would be the Foster's Towing and Salvage No Box class. With so much at stake David Elam was looking to hold on to the points lead to take his car to the IHRA Summit World Finals and to clinch the track championship, but tonight would not be his night. Elam managed to hold on to the points lead but it was a sit and wait night as Elam wouldn't advance to the third round. The finals would be Cliff Hubbard of Millington, TN paired against TJ Tracey of Millington, TN. Hubbard who would put Rumley on the trailer in the semifinals would take the win in the finals with a .020 reaction time running a 5.81 with a five on a 5.76 dial in to Tracey's .069 reaction time running a 6.23 with a seven on a 6.31 dial in. Hubbard not only took home the victory and winner's check, he also took home the Richmond Gears provided by Contingency Connection to this week's winner.

With just 11 points separating Elam and Rumley for the top spot, the next points race is critical. Will Elam advance to the IHRA Summit World Finals in the Summit SuperSeries Run Off on October 19-22 or will Rumley take the lead and put himself in the IHRA Summit World Finals representing Team Memphis in the Summit SuperSeries?

Cody Graham Race 10

It all came down to the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro/Box to round out the night. With Jesse Bobo still struggling to get past the second round, the race was on to see who would be crowned the winner of the night. The finals came down to Cody Graham of Millington, TN paired against Michael Hall of Olive Branch, MS. Graham, who is making a last minute push for IHRA Summit Team Finals and Team Memphis, had a strong night against a solid Michael Hall who is currently sitting fifth in points with his spot already clinched to be on Team Memphis. Graham would be better on the tree and Hall with a break out run would give the win to Graham. Graham had a .015 reaction time running a 6.49 with a four to Hall's .040 reaction time running a 4.91 with a nine on a 4.92 dial in.

Bobo held on to the points lead by 41 over dad, Jeff Bobo, who took the number two spot from Ferrell on Saturday night. The question remains, will 41 points be enough to take Jesse Bobo to the IHRA Summit World Finals as the Memphis Summit SuperSeries Champion, one race left will determine the final push. The automatic spot is only a 10 point differential with Tyler Roach in the alternate spot just 10 points behind Snyder and Gladwell with Graham moving to the 15th spot on the outside looking in.
