All door car final for $10,000

The Great American Bracket race weekend is a wrap and we saw over $150,000 in cash and prizes be awarded throughout the course of the weekend. Sunday would wrap up the weekend with a $10,000 to win in Electronic and the 2nd Hand Stock / Super Stock Combo Race.

The 2nd Hand Power Stock/Super Stock final was the first final of the day. With Mitch Read appearing in his second final of the weekend after a runner up finish on Friday he would see Kenny Bomar of Memphis, TN. Bomar would be a little late on the tree to give Reed the opportunity to take the win with a .042 reaction time running a 10.38 with a 9 on a 10.31 dial in.

The $10,000 to win was contested by over 100 drivers looking for their last opportunity to take home some cash and the coveted "Big Check" with bragging rights for next year.

Conditions were perfect and we saw many racers breaking out in round one. Two drivers with first round losses took advantage of a buyback to get back on track. Door car vs door car, door car vs dragster, and we wound up back with door car vs door car in the final. Rickey Jones of Manchester, GA would meet Todd "Bones" Ewing of Vinemont, AL in the final. Taking the win at the tree would be Jones with a .017 reaction time running a 5.73 with a 7 on a 5.72 to Ewing's .032 reaction time running a 5.79 with a 4 on a 5.79 dial in.

It was a great weekend of racing, weather was beautiful and the racing was phenomenal. Memphis International Raceway, Gaylon Rolison and Britt Cummings would like to thank everyone that joined us this past weekend and if you missed it, you need to get this on your calendar early for 2017 for the 9th Annual Great American Bracket Race at Memphis International Raceway.

"The partnership we share with Rolison and Cummings on this event is one we look to continue for many years to come. It's a great racing package for the racers as well as one of the best pit parties in all of drag racing on Saturday night," said Dominic Blasco, director of operations for Memphis International Raceway. "Rolison and Cummings have worked with Paul Cartwright for many years and they did a great job of building a quality event that we look to continue to make better."

On tap next week at Memphis International Raceway is the next running of the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams, Saturday, September 17. With only two races left before the Memphis team is set for the IHRA Team Finals, points are important, as we prepare to do battle against 14 other teams in route to the IHRA Team Finals Championship for Division 2.

Classes featured next Saturday night will be Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro, Foster's Towing and Salvage No Box, R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster, and R.T. Turbines D.O.T. / Street. The final points race for 2016 will be Sunday, September 25.
