Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams Race No. 7 Recap

Wednesday, July 6, 2016
The Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams has reached the second half of the season and the point's race is tight in all classes.

As the temperatures were cooling down, the on-track performance was heating up.  With great track conditions, many racers took advantage of this opportunity to celebrate the fourth of July with a win!

In the R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster Class, it was an all-girl final.  Brianna Moore of Millington, TN would pair up against Tara Taylor of Somerville, TN to see who would visit the winner's circle.  Moore who has had some hard luck as of late, turned it around on Saturday night, with a .097 reaction time running a 7.98 with a 1 on a 7.98 dial in to Taylor's .042 reaction time running an 8.10 with a 7 on an 8.05 dial in.  Taylor had it off the tree, but gave it back at the top end.   The win moves Moore into contention to represent Team Memphis at the IHRA Team Finals in October, with 5 races left on the schedule, consistency will be the key.

In the RT Turbines Junior Dragster 2nd Chance race, Devan Lowe of Covington, TN would take the win over Rose of Ripley, TN.  The second chance program gives these young racers the additional seat time that's so important.

As the night continued in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro, Buddy Ferrell of Brighton, TN has been on a winning streak for the last several events and Saturday night was no different. Ferrell would see Millington, TN's Ron Minton in the final round.  With a .10 reaction time in the semi-finals, Minton would have lane choice, but Ferrell who was a little slower in the previous round, came to race in the finals with a .009 reaction time running a 4.86 with an 8 on a 4.86 dial in to Minton's .025 reaction time running a 6.75 with a 7 on a 6.75.  The tree was the difference maker.  With the win, Ferrell remains 2nd in the points race narrowing the margin from a 90-point margin to 53.

Foster's Towing and Salvage Not Box class is a tight race.  With early on points leaders Greg Johnson slipping in the lasts few races while Kyle Rumley held the points lead going into the second half of the season.   Johnson, coming into the night sitting third in points was looking to get back on top.  The final would have Johnson of Covington, TN in his Chevy S10 pair against Bradley Sanders of Henning, TN in his 69 Opel.  The tree would make the difference - Sanders too quick turning on the win light for Johnson sending Johnson to the winner's circle.  Johnson had a .256 reaction with a breakout run of 7.124 on a 7.13 dial in.

The RT Turbines DOT/Street class is the only ¼ mile class on the night and it's one that won't disappoint.  The finals would see two familiar faces, Billy Foster, Sr. of Atoka, TN paired against Covington, TN's David Elam.  With both driver's on a breakout run, Elam would have the better package and make a visit to the winner's circle as the night's race winner.  The RT Turbines DOT/Street class is the closest point's battle in the series.  Coming in to the race, Cliff Hubbard held an eight-point advantage over Bradley Sanders.  Sanders would meet up with Hubbard in round three and that would be the difference in the points at the end of the night.  Sanders took the win and a two point advantage in the points chase.

With a week off from the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams, the series will be back in action on Saturday, July 16.  Gates will open at 6 p.m. with time trials at 7 p.m.  The night will also feature the 6.0 and 7.0 classes.
