Outlaw Street Car Reunion Returns to Memphis for Fourth Straight Season of Small Tire Racing in 2017

Tuesday, June 14, 2016
Kicking off the 2017 schedule announcements will be the small tire, drag radial juggernaut event returning to Memphis International Raceway in Millington, Tennessee for the fourth consecutive season on March 22-26, 2017. Southern Speed Promotions, LLC has committed to bring one of the world’s largest small tire gatherings back to the Memphis area, which has come out in droves to support this event the last three seasons. Event promoters Tyler Crossnoe and Mark Samples are excited to keep one of the largest events on the MIR schedule right at home for another season. “Memphis is where the small tire racing scene blasted off with the HOT ROD Fastest Street Car Shootout back in 1992, the year that I was born. It’s exciting to continue the small tire craze at the famed facility where I grew up and also won my first race behind the wheel,” mentioned Crossnoe.

In 2016, the third running of the Outlaw Street Car Reunion yielded 326 of the best small tire and sportsman index racers across the country converging on the MIR grounds to see who reigned supreme. Kyle Huettel and the Bad9er Racing team from Texas (pictured below), set the new MIR ET Track Record for a Radial vs. The World car with a 3.88 second shot while Oklahoman DeWayne Mills set the MPH side of the record books with a 210.04 miles per hour blast. In 2015, OSCR II had its break out year with 314 entries and continued the trend in 2016 with Southern Speed Promotions’ largest events yet.

The last two seasons, two of the biggest names from Street Outlaws (Justin Shearer “Big Chief” and Shawn Ellington “Murder Nova”) strapped drag radials on their cars and ran their career best elapsed times down the Memphis International Raceway tarmac with Shearer going 4.03 with the new Crowmod in Radial vs. The World while the Murder Nova slipped a 4.28 on the board in Limited Drag Radial.

With March 2017 right around the corner, the SSP team has worked furiously with new Director of Operations, Dominic Blasco, to keep the trend of one of the top radial races on the globe going in a positive direction. Blasco mentioned, “We at MIR are excited to have the Outlaw Street Car Reunion back in 2017 after many talks and discussions with the Southern Speed Promotions team. I look forward to working with the promoters again after a previous event in the past seasons at different facilities. MIR strives to help the team at SSP to reach new heights and goals with the fourth running of the OSCR event.”

Returning will be the quickest and fastest class on radials, Radial vs. The World, with cars running in the 3.8 second range at over 200 miles per hour, paying the highest purse in event history, $15,000 to Win! X275 has become a crowd favorite over the past seasons and usually chalks up some of the best side by side racing of the event, also featuring its largest purse in event history with $10,000 to Win! Limited Drag Radial, Ultra Street and MX235 will also return to the star-studded lineup of radial avengers ready to pound the pavement.

Sportsman racing is a mainstay with the Southern Speed Promotions team and it was evident last season with the largest 6.00 and 7.00 Index crowds to date with over 150 total cars between both categories. In 2017, the two sportsman index categories will run for $5,000 to Win, which is few and far between in the index world of payouts. New to 2017, Thursday’s Pro Test Session will also feature an Index Shootout that has payouts based on car counts but guarantees $2,500 to Win and could reach numbers of up to $5,000 to Win, just on Thursday’s bonus race! Two races in one weekend is rarely done in heads up drag racing and SSP is proud to offer this to the index racers who have supported in the past few seasons.

Last but not least, the two wheel terrors are coming to the OSCR event with the competitive Pro Street Motorcycle class, presented by: Great Lakes Racecraft, QuickTime Motorsports and Arnold Magnetic Technologies. These wild rides are running the quarter-mile at 6.8 seconds and well over 200 miles per hour on a hard compound, drag radial style motorcycle tire. Southern Speed Promotions is excited to bring a new demographic into the 2017 edition of the event that has yet to be seen in the Midsouth area.

Crossnoe and Samples have plenty more coming to the fourth running of the Outlaw Street Car Reunion on March 22-26, 2017 at Memphis International Raceway. The weekend long event will attract race fans of all ages and backgrounds as it has in the past three seasons. With bigger and better things coming to the racers and fans, be on the lookout for more announcements through our website and social media accounts, along with their host website at OSCR.us and by searching Southern Speed Promotions on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
