Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams Race No. 5 Recap

Tuesday, May 10, 2016
The Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams was back in action this past Saturday with blue skies and absolutely beautiful weather. The weekend marked the fifth race of the season and shakeups were on tap.

The R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster class saw a familiar face pick up where she left off in race three of the season - Tara Taylor, of Somerville, Tennessee would head to the finals and pair up against Chris Huff of Rosemark, Tennessee to determine the champion. Taylor advanced round after round and it was time to see if she could make it a clean sweep, facing Huff who took advantage of a buy back early on to give him another opportunity. Taylor would take it at the tree with a .078 reaction time running an 8.066 on a 7.99 dial-in to Huff's .118 reaction time, running a 8.289 on an 8.21 dial-in.

The win moves Taylor back into the lead in the point standings with an 11-point advantage over Drew "Mann" Tracey after five races. The top five also saw Huff make a jump into fourth.

The R. T. Turbines Junior 2nd Chance race saw Wade Rose take the win with a .137 reaction time running a 11.803 on an 11.73 dial-in.

Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro class saw 34 drivers battle it out for the top spot. With Buddy Ferrell of Brighton, Tennessee and Shane Stout of Jackson, Tennessee outlasting and out performing their fellow competitors during the day. Stout, missing the last race, had to make a strong appearance to stay in the hunt to defend the track championship and Ferrell, who has been on a hot streak since the middle of April, was looking to continue the momentum. With a first round win by both drivers, Ferrell was a little quick on the start in round two using a buy back for a new opportunity.   Stout would go from round one to the finals flawless and was looking to keep that streak alive in the finals. The finals saw Ferrell too quick on the tree once again and Stout would take the win with a .036 reaction time running a 4.82 with a 2 on a 4.82 dial-in. Ferrell ran it out with a .022 red reaction time running a 4.969 on a 4.96 dial-in.

The win brought Stout back into the top five; 101 points behind current points leader Jesse Bobo of Walnut, Mississippi. The season is young and there is a lot more racing that will happen before this is settled in the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro class. Ferrell holds on to the second spot followed closely by Parsons, Stout and Mitton to round out the top five.

Foster's Towing and Salvage Pro/No Box had 36 drivers battling it out for the top spot in this class with former track champion of MIR David Elam of Covington, Tennessee and Tim Pace of Booneville, Mississippi looking to settle it in the final round. Elam was a little too quick on the tree in round two, and took full advantage of the buy back to get back in to it. Pace was killer on the tree all day with a perfect reaction time in round five. The tree was not the factor in the final, Elam took the win with a .031 reaction time running a 5.88 with a 4 to Pace's .023 reaction time running a 6.09 with a 1 on a 6.06 dial-in. Pace had it on the tree and Elam took it back on the top end.

Current points leader Kyle Rumley of Huntingdon, Tennessee's night came to an end on Elam's pursuit to the final round. Elam's win bumped him up to second in the points just 31 points behind Rumley. Also making a move this week was Troy Poindexter who jumped from 10th to fifth in the points with a solid day.

R. T. Turbines DOT/ Street is stacking up to be a battle to the end, with the closest points battle on the card. The night would see Tommy Jackson of Millington, Tennessee, who has made an appearance in the finals the last two outings, looking to improve just one spot to take the win. Billy Foster, Sr. of Brighton, Tennessee, who is the defending track champion, had a mission of his own. Jackson was consistent taking each round win at the tree leading into the finals. Foster not a stranger of winning at the tree was in the same position - both drivers went from round one to round five winning it at the tree. The finals shaped up to be a good one. Jackson took the win with a .035 reaction time running a 13.45 with an 8 on a 13.45 dial-in to Foster's .030 reaction time running a 16.272 on a 16.25 dial-in. Foster had it on the tree with Jackson taking it back at the top end.

Cliff Hubbard of Millington, Tennessee holds on to the points lead by two points over Chris Foster of Brighton, Tennessee. Jackson sits in third just 28 points behind Hubbard followed closely by Sanders and Franks tied for fifth. Defending track champion, Billy Foster, Sr. in car 1982 dropped out of the top five.
