Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams Recap

The Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams was back in full swing this past Saturday night at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) after a month off. As the third race of the season is a wrap, new drivers took a shot at taking home a coveted trophy, veteran drivers returned to defend their spot in the points and the gap in the points is closing.

The R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster class would set the stage with Tara Taylor starting the night off with a perfect reaction time, before taking her car all the way to the Winner’s Circle for her first R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster points win. Tara has been knocking on the door the last few times out with runner-up finishes and semi appearances, but tonight was her night. The final run of the night saw Tara Taylor of Sumerville, Tennessee with a .032 reaction time going 8.072 on a 7.99 dial-in taking the win over Chris Huff of Rosemark, Tennessee with a .124 reaction time running at 7.999 on a 7.90 dial-in. The win also moves Tara into the points lead after three races.

The R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster 2nd Chance race saw Millington, Tennessee native Drew “Mann” Tracey taking on fellow Millington native Brianna Moore. Moore was quicker on the tree with a .030 reaction time to Tracey’s .050 but gave it back at the top end running a 8.095 on a 7.97 dial-in to Drew’s 8.326 on an 8.30 dial-in.

Rick’s Powder Coating Super Pro/Box saw eight new drivers enter the point’s race for 2016 with 30 cars taking the tree in round one. Mark Parson of Mountain View, Arkansas would start his night with a perfect reaction time in round one and not look back the rest of the way. Taking the win each round bringing him to face the current point’s leader, Jesse Bobo of Walnut, Mississippi in the finals. Parson had a .001 reaction time to Bobo’s .014 taking the win with a 4.832 on a 4.83 dial-in to Jesse’s 4.731 on a 4.71 dial-in.  The win took Parson from 28th in the points to the number five spot while Bobo kept control of the number one spot.

Foster’s Towing and Salvage Pro/No Box, after seven rounds of eliminations, saw Greg Rushing of Jackson, Tennessee paired against 2015 Track Champion Caffey Broadus of Olive Branch, Mississippi. Rushing displayed a .004 reaction time to Broadus’ .033 running a 6.91 with a 6 on a 6.91 dial-in while Broadus broke out with 6.17 on a 6.18 dial-in. The win took Rushing from 20th in points to the top-five, while Broadus jumped into a tie for third. The point’s race is tight in the Foster’s Towing and Salvage Pro/No Box class and one slip could find you out of the top-five.

R. T. Turbines DOT/ Street saw first time winner Randy Franks of Hayti, Missouri take his first win and visit to the winner’s circle. Franks came onto the scene hot and heavy in 2015 and after many passes building confident and experience, Saturday was his night. After a first round red light, he zoned in on the prize and a buy back provided new opportunity for Franks to go to the finals. Defeating 2015 Track Champion, Foster, Sr. in round two and not looking back. Franks took the win with a .056 reaction time running a 17.122 on a 17.10 dial-in to Tommy Jackson’s .059 reaction time running a 13.543 on a 13.50 dial-in. Franks jumps from the sixth spot in points to third while Hubbard after three races maintains the points lead.

The 2nd Hand Power Stock/Super Stock class kicked of their season with 19 drivers looking to take the first win of the season at MIR and start their run for the Track Championship. T. D. Holland of Huntington, Tennessee found himself paired against Scotty Duncan of Olive Branch, Mississippi to set the pace. Holland taking it at the tree with a .033 reaction time and running a 10.02 on a 10.0 dial-in to Duncan’s .038 reaction time running a 11.007 on a 10.98 dial-in.

“With the season ahead, Memphis International Raceway is dedicated to the highest level of track prep and event operations,” said Dominic Blasco, director of operations at MIR.   Blasco continued, “I want to thank all of these who came out and I appreciated the many conversation I had with you. For those that I didn’t get the chance to meet, I look forward to doing that in the future.”
