Wednesday, March 28, 2012

The 2012 Summit Super Series presented by Comp Cams kicked off in fine fashion on Saturday March 24.

Area bracket racers have eagerly awaited the beginning of the point’s series that will ultimately lead to the crowning of the 2012 track champions and Memphis representation in the Team Finals in October. The first bracket point’s race since fall 2009 saw racers from Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas in competition in Super Pro, Pro/No E, Street, Motorcycle and Junior Dragster categories.

Vice President and General Manager Pam Kendrick said, “We’ve waited a long time to have the area bracket racers here and it’s great to see lots of hard work pay off. The racers responded very positively. This is going to be a great series and it will only get bigger and better!”

Super Pro saw veteran racer Ron Minton pilot his Plymouth Barracuda to the first win of the year. Minton beat TJ Tracey to pick up the win. Buddy Ferrell was the semi-finalist. Pro/No E saw Caffey Broadus pick up the win in his 1972 Dodge and took the series points lead. Broadus defeated Brandon Moore in the final round. Semi finalists were Jeff Petty and Matt Dellinger. Street ET, where drivers can literally drive their cars from the street to the strip, saw Jimmy Ray pick up the win in his 1965 Chevy. Cliff Hubbard was runner-up, Rhonda Roach and Roger Iles were semi finalists. The Motorcycle winner was Cindy Covey. She defeated her husband Shawn Covey for the win. James Scott was the semi finalist. In Junior Dragster, Justin Poindexter of Millington beat Kane Carpenter of Lepanto, Arkansas to pick up the win and take the points lead. Justin’s brother Tyler was the semi finalist.
