The chase for the 2016 Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams championship is underway

Thursday, March 3, 2016

The season opener Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams is in the record books. New winners, the points chase has begun and some exciting racing this season is ahead.

The 2016 season kicked off with three out of the four winners being new to the winner's circle at Memphis International Raceway (MIR).

The R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster class saw first time Memphis winner Maddie Malone from Tuscumbia, Alabama lead round after round making it a clean sweep on the day. The final round would come down to Drew "Mann" Tracey and Maddie Malone. Maddie took it at the tree with a .021 reaction time to Drew's .069. Both cars would break out with the better package of an 8.057 on a dial-in of 8.10 going to Maddie Malone. Rounding out the semi-finals would be Tara Taylor and Devin Johnson, who would go on to win the RT Turbines Junior Dragster 2nd Chance race.

The Foster's Towing & Salvage Pro/No Box class saw an extreme amount of red lights during the day with 13 and that number would prove to be unlucky for David Elam. Greg Johnson ended his hard charging 2015 season with a runner-up finish, in the final race of the year making this run either equal to or better than his, performance in 2015, but he would have to face the likes of previous Track Champion and hard charger David Elam. Johnson was cool and calm on the outside, and with the 13th red light on the day ending Elam's chances, Johnson went on to take the victory. The first of his career at MIR.  With his family by his side, it was all high fives and congratulations to both drivers. Rounding out the semi-finals would be Chris Foster.

Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro/Box would be a race of door cars and dragsters all day long. Long time Memphis faithful Ron Minton would see the final round after being a little jumpy in round one turning on the red light, there was new life for Ron with a buy-back. Mike Meadows, would make an appearance at MIR to start the 2016 season and after turning on the win light round after round - Meadows, would find himself paired against Ron Minton in the final. Ron Minton with a better light and better package, would take the win over Meadows in the finals with a .011 reaction time and running a 6.678 on a 6.67 dial-in. Meadows wasn't far off with a .016 reaction time and running a 4.911 on a 4.89 dial-in. The win marked Ron's first trip to the winner's circle since winning in the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams point's race on July 27, 2014. In the winner's circle Ron was a little speechless and said "that's the way to start the season!"  Rounding out the semi-finals would be Madison Meadows and Cory Glidewell.

R.T. Turbines DOT/Street saw new racers and new representation in the finals. The race would go six rounds before newcomer to the scene Levi Moore would make an appearance against veteran Cliff Hubbard in the R.T. Turbines DOT final round. Hubbard was consistent and flawless all day, turning on win light after win light, the question was could Moore, who came on hot after taking a round loss in the early going would stay hot. The final came down to the tree, Hubbard posted a .038 reaction time to Moore's .278 and took it in a hole shot. Hubbard ran a 14.79 on his 14.57 dial-in.
