Late Charges in the Season

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

It may be late in the season, but it's never too late for the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams point leaders to change at Memphis International Raceway (MIR). During the first race back after the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Team Finals, MIR saw a few new faces in the Winner's Circle and witnessed a change in the points battle.

Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro saw 2012 Champion, Michael Hall take over the top spot by just eight points with his runner-up finish to Russell Snyder.  Former points leader Shane Stout now sits in second followed by Leigh Hubbard, Jeff Bobo and Russell Synyder, respectively. Rusty Ashmore, the 2013 and 2014 Champion, has fallen out of contention and will not compete for his third-consecutive championship as he sits ninth in the points, 281 points behind the leader.

B & B Towing Pro/Footbrake is the closest battle in the points heading into this weekend. Only two points separate current leader Caffey Broadus and second-place driver John Castellaw. Both drivers will need to be on their game to out last the other.  TJ Tracy sits in third and isn't out of the hunt yet, with a stellar performance, and some trouble by the top two, there's a chance he can advance to the top spot. David Elam holds the fourth spot and two-time champion David Ciarloni rounds out the top-five. Both would need help, but could be outside shots for the title.

RT Turbines DOT/Street class has grown exponentially this year with more cars participating than years past. Billy Foster Sr. has five wins to his credit, giving him a substantial lead over his competitors. Cliff Hubbard sits in second with four wins and a 93-point deficit to Foster . The top-five is rounded out with 2014 Champion David Elam, Billy Foster, Sr. (in car No. 1981) and Jeremy Foree.

The future of the sport, the RT Turbines Junior Dragster class, has been lead by the Poindexter brothers for the majority of the season. Tyler and Justin have a combined total of eight wins out of 14 races this season. Justin, the 2013 Champion, is currently sitting in the top spot with a narrow 18-point margin over last years champion and his brother Tyler.  Rounding out the top-five are Drew Tracey, Devin Johnson and Tara Taylor.

With only two Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams events remaining in 2015, the competition will be fierce. Who will claim the top spot and become the Track Champion at Memphis International Raceway? Head out to MIR this Sunday, November 8 to check out all of the action. Gates open at 9 a.m. with Church Service at 10 a.m. and time trials begin at 11 a.m. followed by eliminations.
