Ironman Classic Set for This Weekend

Monday, August 3, 2015
This weekend’s Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams events scheduled for Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9 at Memphis International Raceway are getting tweaked to make the racing as competitive as possible for some of the specialty classes.

The 2nd Hand Power Stock/Superstock Combo races originally scheduled for this weekend will now be folded in as part of the weekend of the Great American Bracket Race on Sept. 12-13. To take the stocker’s place, the 6.0 and 7.0 classes will be running this weekend.

“We want the fields to be strong,” said MIR Director of Operations Paul Cartwright. “We discovered there is a conflict on the schedule with our Stock/SS classes this weekend, so we made the change. Our 6.0 and 7.0 racers were more than happy to fill the vacancy in the schedule and we think the new date will work out well for Stock/SS racers, too.”

With two straight days of racing including the prestigious Ironman Classic on Sunday, the points classes in the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams could see a major shakeup if one of the leaders is off their game.

In Rick’s Powder Coating Super Pro, Shane Stout is 33 points ahead of Michael Hall for the lead. There’s also competition for the final spots on MIR Team 1 in the IHRA Team Bracket Finals coming up in October. T.J. Tracey is holding on to the last Super Pro spot but J.R. Barclay is only nine points behind and Ronald Bowers is 20 back.

John Castellaw III leads the way in B&B Towing Footbrake, but second place Caffey Broadus has gained 72 points on Castellaw in the last three races and now trails the leader by only 10 points. Patrick Richardson is in the bump spot for the Team Finals. He holds a 21-point edge over Steve Wilson.

R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster sees Justin and Tyler Poindexter battling it out for the season championship. Justin is the leader with a eight point lead over second. Devin Johnson is in the bump spot for Team Finals. He is 32 points ahead of Tara Taylor.

Cliff Hubbard has pulled away in RT Turbines DOT Street. He’s got a 22 point edge over Billy Foster Sr.

Gates for the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams at 6 p.m. on Saturday with time trials starting at 7 p.m. On Sunday, gates open at 9 a.m. with the church service at 10 a.m. and time trials at 11 a.m.
