New Car Pays Off for Reed

While most people try their best to maintain that new car smell, Mitch Reed would be tickled if he’s able keep his new car performance going as long as possible.

Reed won both ends of the 2nd Hand Power Stock/SS combo doubleheader at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) on Saturday making him the only driver to double up in the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams.

“It’s hard to believe this is the first time brought this car out,” Reed said after winning his second race of the day. “I hope it keep running like this because I’ve got a race in Bowling Green coming up.”

In the first race, Reed won the finals with a pass of 10.552 seconds at 126.13 mph on a 10.53 index, his opponent Randy Banks broke out with a 10.751 on at 121.70 mph on a 10.76 index. In the nightcap, Reed won right away when his opponent Scotty Duncan left .038 seconds too early and fouled out. Reed’s victory lap was in 16.183 seconds at 55.27 mph on a 10.55 second dial.

Tyler Poindexter came close to pulling a double win in the R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster class. He won the first race over Brianna Moore with a pass of 8.035 at 77.31 on an 8.02 index. She broke out with a 7.898 at 80.39 mph on a 7.91 dial. Poindexter reached the finals of the second race and was shooting for four straight Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams win, but was upended by his brother, Justin, who ran an 8.069 at 77.09 mph. Tyler ran a 8.051 at 79.03 mph on a 8.03 index in the second final.

Other Race 1 winners include Stacy Tritch in Rick’s Powder Coating Super Pro who beat Brian Anglin with a pass of 4.900 at 130.81 mph on a 4.88 to Anglin’s 5.957 at 114.73 on a 5.95 dial.

TJ Tracy won B&B Towing Footbrake with a pass of 6.400 at 111.67 mph on an index of 6.37 over John Castellaw III who broke out with a pass of 6.163 at 110.98 on an index of 6.17.

David Elam won R.T. Turbines DOT Street with a pass of 11.584 at 108.94 mph on at 11.52 index over Billy Foster Sr. who made a lap of 14.202 at 93.30 mph on a 14.14 dial.

In Race 2, Cody Graham won the Rick’s Powder Coating Super Pro class on a hole shot over Michael Hall. Graham’s winning pass was in 4.742 at 141.40 mph on a 4.72 dial in. Hall ran a 4.896 at 138.93 mph on a 4.89. Graham cut a .020 second reaction time to Hall’s 0.44.

David Ciarloni won the B&B Towing Footbrake class with a pass of 6.079 at 109.26 mph on a 6.05 dial in over Tommy Jackson II who broke out with a 6.217 at 110.19 on a 6.22 dial.

Foster rebounded to win the second race in R.T. Turbines DOT Street when Ron Hull fouled out in the final. Foster’s victory lap was in 14.269 at 90.97 mph on a 14.26 index.

The next Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams event is Saturday, May 2 alongside the Summit Racing IHRA Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL.
