Saturday Spectacular at Super Chevy Show

The Super Chevy Show at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) was greeted with the kind of day that was perfect for top speeds on the drag strip, top shine in the car show area and top dollar in the swap meet.

“You couldn’t have asked for a better day,” said MIR VP and GM Pam Kendrick. “We had wonderful weather all day long and the grandstands full of fans. We’re looking forward to more of the same tomorrow.”



Among the highlights of the day were:

*During opening ceremonies a group of approximately 40 U.S. Air Force recruits were sworn into the service.

* The Super Chevy Show’s car show handed out its specialty awards:

RockAuto Restored Award – Byron Long, 1967 Camaro RS Convertible

Duracell Crank It With The CopperTop Award – Shawn Brereton, 1955 Chevy

Original Parts Group Inc. Original Award – Ken Seddelmeyer, 1970 Chevelle SS

Minties Top Dog Award – Randy West, 1970 Chevrolet Pickup

TV Producer’s Pick – John Callies, 1940 Chevy

TV Producer’s Pick – Harold Petty, 1960 El Camino

TV Producer’s Pick – Mick Price, 1962 Biscayne

Best Engineered – Stan McCord, 1941 Willys

Best Paint – Brandon High, 1997 GMC Pickup

Best Interior – Gregg Dunkin, 1969 Camaro

Best Engine – Donald Wolfe, 1965 Impala

Best Stock – Chuck Cimera, 1967 Camaro

Best Street – Larry Richardson, 1968 Chevelle

Best Modified – David Smith, 1957 Bel-Air

Best Workmanship – Tony Ogles, 1966 Nova

ISCA Award – Bobby Vanmart, 1955 Chevy

Car Club Award – Relaxed Atmosphere

* The U.S. Pro Mod Southern Shootout featured its qualifying sessions and its first elimination session.

* The fields for the two bracket races were set.

Sunday’s final day of the Super Chevy Show will be just as exciting as the all-important class awards will be handed in the car show, all racing classes will be in eliminations and the swap meet and car corral will be filled with last-minute bargains.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Adult admission for the show is only $15 with children 6-12 are $5 and kids 5 and under are free.
