Summit Bracket Series presented by COMP Cams Results

Monday, July 14, 2014

It's the middle of the summer and the action is not only heating up outside, it's heating up on the drag strip too. The Summit Bracket Series presented by COMP Cams are nine races into their schedule at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) and the Chase to the Championship is closing in fast.

With just five races remaining in the Summit Bracket Series presented by COMP Cams, Rusty Ashmore has extended his points lead in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro by 43 and he is the only repeat winner in the class with three wins.  In the R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragster class, Tyler Poindexter is now tied with Drew Mann Tracey after his runner-up finish on Saturday. The duo are sitting in first with 447 points.

"It was a great night for racing," stated Paul Cartwright, Director of Operations. "There's only five races left before the IHRA Summit Team Final's so these drivers are really pushing themselves. Rusty Ashmore has been on a hot streak here and he won at Holly Springs so it'll be interesting to see if that streak continues. We'll see everyone back out here in a couple of weeks for a double header."

R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters

The final round in the R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters class was a brother vs. brother showdown. Justin and Tyler Poindexter from Millington, Tenn. battled it out to the very end with Justin coming out victorious. He broke out with a 8.035 off a 8.03 dial-in as Tyler was 8.024 off his 8.03 dial-in. The runner-up finish did move Tyler back up into the points as he and Drew Mann Tracey are tied for first-place.

R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters Second Chance Shootout

Brianna Moore visited the winner's circle for the first time this season in the R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters Second Chance Shootout class. The Millington, Tenn. driver went up against Devan Lowe from Covington, Tenn. in the final round and took the win with a 8.007 second run at 77.43 M.P.H.

B&B Towing Footbrake

Caffey Broadus from Olive Branch, Miss. took home his third win in the B&B Towing Footbrake class on Saturday. Broadus and Lewis Jasper from Millington, Tenn. went head-to-head in the final round. Jasper was hit with a red-light start giving the automatic win to Broadus in his 1968 Dodge with a dead-on 6.183 second run to his 6.18 dial-in time. With the win, Broadus moved up two spots and sits only five points behind leader Cody Graham.

 Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro

Rusty Ashmore from Southaven, Miss. is becoming a predominant fixture in the winner's circle in the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro class as he returned for back-to-back wins. Cody Graham made it to the semi-finals with Ashmore and Tyler Roach from Jonesboro, Ark. going into the final round. Ashmore posted a stellar .002 reaction time and ran 6.372 off his 6.37 dial-in. Roach would be eliminated due to a red-light start. With the win, Ashmore  now carries a 43-point lead over Cody Graham.

R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street

David Elam from Covington, Tenn. and Cliff Hubbard from Millington, Tenn. once again found themselves up against each other in the final round of the R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street class. Elam posted a .016 reaction time and ran 9.517 off his 9.50 dial-in to defeat the hard-charging Duster of Hubbard. Hubbard had a 11.223 pass at over 112 m.p.h. Andrew Reves brought home a semi-finalist finish, as well.
